Materials philosophy

Two materials we trust. One we refuse.

Almost every furniture shop you'll walk into sells particle board. It's the cheapest engineered wood there is, and it shows within two years. bare nest is built on a stricter shortlist — honest MDF where it makes sense, and solid wood where it earns its price.

Solid Wood

01

Sheesham · Teak · Mango · Ash

₹₹₹

Picked for grain, seasoned slowly, finished with hardwax oil. The pieces you'll pass on, not throw out.

What you get

  • Outlives the family that bought it
  • Repairs and refinishes beautifully
  • Each board unique by grain

Trade-offs

  • Sits at the top of our price list
  • Heavier to move and install

Beds, dining tables, conference tables, statement wardrobes.

Honest Mid-Tier
Sample · 02

Dense MDF

02

Pre-laminated · Matte veneer top

₹₹

Medium-density fibreboard, properly engineered. Behaves for years, not months — even after a monsoon.

What you get

  • Strong enough for daily use
  • Holds finish without warping
  • Within most home-furnishing budgets

Trade-offs

  • Not as repairable as solid wood
  • Heavier than it looks

Wardrobes, dressing tables, crockery units, office desks, shoe racks.

Particle Board

03

Sawdust + glue, pressed cheap

The cheapest engineered wood — what about 90% of local shops sell, often hidden under glossy laminate. We don't carry it. Not at any price.

Why we won't stock it

  • Sags under load within two years
  • Doesn't survive a single move
  • Hides its weakness behind laminate

You won't find a single particle-board SKU in our catalogue. Promise.

Eight years in the furniture industry

A word from the studio

Eight years on the shop floor taught me one thing: customers don't want the cheapest. They want to know what they're buying. So we built bare nest around two materials we'd put in our own home  and refused the one we wouldn't.

We're not really in the furniture business. We're in the Sunday-afternoon business, the Diwali-evening business, the chai-on-a-new-sofa business. Furniture just happens to be how we show up.

A note from the founderLetter № 01

"I won't sell you anything I wouldn't put in my own home."

Eight years on a furniture floor taught me what fails — and what doesn't. So Bare Nest stocks two things: MDF you can trust, and solid wood that earns its price. Particle board doesn't make it through our doors. It never will.

P.S. If you ever spot particle board on our floor, the piece is free. We're that sure.
